Common questions

Orthotics can prevent further deformity of the compromised limb or spine. They can also help alleviate pain and enhance function by immobilizing or restricting certain motions of the compromised joint.

Most orthotic and prosthetic services for pediatrics are covered under their insurance plan.

Due to growth, it is hard to predict how long a child will be able to wear their prosthesis or orthosis. If there is significant blanching of the skin and redness throughout when wearing the orthosis or prosthesis, this could be caused by their device being too small and tight. Please reach out to First Steps Prosthetics Orthotics for further consultation.

Please reach out to your Pediatrician to determine your child’s current functional goals and functional parameters at this time. Ask your Doctor if you believe these goals are feasible for your child. To meet your child’s functional goals, reach out to a Pediatric Physical Therapist to determine what deformities can be addressed through exercise and stretch, and what can best be addressed with a prosthesis or orthosis.
